C55UP Two-Piece Ultra-Pure HDPE Drum

The C55UP is a two-piece, tri-layer ultra-pure HDPE 55-gallon drum with integrated chime, designed for aggressive and high-danger chemistries — including Packing Group I materials, which can only ship in drums carrying the X-rated UN marking. Its two-piece design adds a handling-ring system for hardware protection and inventory identification. And it gives up nothing to get there: the same tri-layer construction, virgin ultra-clean inner liner, and Class 100 LPC verification as the rest of the ultra-pure line.

Is This Your Drum?

Where the C55UP fits — and where it doesn’t.

Designed for

  • Packing Group I (high-danger) chemistries, which require an X-rated HDPE drum.
  • Aggressive chemistries across Group I, II, and III — certified with and without a dip tube.
  • Operations protecting custom pump assemblies or dip tubes with an added protective ring.
  • Plants that identify inventory visually — body and ring color combinations by chemistry or line.

Not designed for

  • Operations whose KPI is the lowest metal extractables — see the K55UP.
  • Higher-pressure chemistries needing a 300 kPa rating — see the IC55UP in its 1H1/Y1.9/300 configuration.
  • Food and beverage processing — see the FDA-compliant N55 nestable system.
  • Industrial or chemical service that doesn’t require an ultra-pure specification — see General Application Drums.
The Two-Piece Advantage

A ring system that protects hardware and identifies inventory.

Ring options

A top handling ring protects closures and any custom pump assembly or dip tube installed in the drum. A top + bottom ring option adds an additional protective ring at the bottom of the drum.

Color-coded identification

Body and ring color combinations give operations a visual inventory system — chemistry, line, or customer identified at a glance across the warehouse.

Per-drum traceability

Every C55UP carries a unique traceability identification label, pairing the visual system with documented identity.

Common Applications

Where the C55UP earns its marking.

01

High-hazard specialty chemicals

Packing Group I products require an X-rated drum. The C55UP is marked 1H1/X1.7/250, so a single specification covers the PG I–III range rather than splitting the program across two drums.

PG I · II · III · 1H1/X1.7/250
02

Chemical intermediates

Intermediates change hands more than once, and every transfer is a chance to pick up contamination. The tri-layer wall keeps colorants and UV stabilizers in the exterior structure, so the chemistry only ever contacts virgin ultra-clean HDPE.

03

Controlled distribution chemistries

Where chain of custody has to be demonstrated rather than asserted, each drum traces back to its production record. Certification documents and test summaries are available per configuration.

Per-drum traceability · documents per configuration
04

Applications requiring X-rated transport certification

An X rating is tested to the Packing Group I standard, which means it also satisfies II and III. Specify it once and the same drum carries across the range.

X-rated · covers PG I through III

Every one of them still gets the full ultra-pure build — tri-layer construction, virgin inner liner, Class 1000 clean-room finishing, and Class 100 LPC verification. The X rating and the cleanliness are not a trade.

C55UP Questions

Answers buyers ask for first.

Answers to the questions we hear most before a first quote. If yours isn't here, the form is the fastest route to a specific answer.

Why does Packing Group I chemistry require the C55UP?

Packing Group I — the highest-danger transport classification — can only ship in HDPE drums that carry the X rating within the UN/DOT embossment. The C55UP is UN tested and certified for Group I, II, and III chemistries with that X-rated marking, 1H1/X1.7/250. Our IC55UP and K55UP are certified for Group II and III only.

What are the ring options for?

A top handling ring protects closures, custom pump assemblies, and dip tubes installed in the drum, and a top + bottom ring option adds an additional protective ring at the bottom. Ring and body color combinations give operations a visual inventory-identification system.

Can the C55UP be used for Packing Group II and III chemistries?

Yes. The C55UP is UN tested and certified for Group I, II, and III chemistries, with and without a dip tube — so operations that want one drum platform across packing groups, or that value the ring system for identification and hardware protection, can standardize on it.

How is C55UP purity verified before shipment?

The C55UP shares the tri-layer construction of our ultra-pure line: colorants and UV stabilizers are isolated in the exterior structure, and the chemical only contacts a virgin ultra-clean inner liner. Cleanliness is verified in our in-house Class 100 liquid particle-count laboratory, and every drum carries a unique traceability identification label.
